I love these Italian biscuits. They’re easy to make, flaky, and loaded with Italian seasonings. They’re the best friend side dish for so many meals, and they double as the best croutons, too.

Not only are these the best biscuits ever, but my son Madden, the pickiest eater I have ever met, ate two with his kale salad and loved every bite of it. I honestly can’t believe I just wrote that…Madden and kale in the same sentence.

Recipe Inspiration

I love using my favorite seasonings in new recipes. So, I took my favorite combination of Italian herbs and turned them into a biscuit.

We were having homemade Caesar salad with grilled chicken, and I wanted something to accompany it. That is when I came up with these biscuits. Not only were they unique, but they even made the best croutons ever! My kids ate these biscuits up.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Italian seasoning
  • Grated parmesan cheese
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Chilled butter
  • Milk
  • Olive oil
  • Italian seasoning

How do you make these Italian Herb Biscuits?

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and Parmesan cheese if you’re using it.

Using a pastry blender, your hands, or a knife and fork, mix in the 6 tablespoons of butter until the flour looks like coarse crumbs.

Add the milk and stir with a fork until the mixture comes together. On a lightly floured surface, pull out the dough and knead until smooth.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 inch. Use a 3-inch biscuit cutter to cut out the dough, or you can opt for squares. For any remaining dough, reshape and roll it out to 1 inch before repeating the process until all the dough is used up and transformed into biscuits.

Arrange biscuit dough on a prepared baking sheet. Combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning with olive oil, then generously coat each biscuit with the oil.

Place in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes or until risen and golden brown. Serve immediately, or set on the counter or serving dish until ready.

Make Biscuit Croutons

  • Leftover biscuits make the best salad croutons; these Italian biscuits are no different.
  • Cut them into bite-sized pieces, and toast them in your air fryer or in the oven until they’re crunchy.

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 tablespoons chilled butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  • Roll out dough until it is 1 inch thick. Cut out dough using a 3 inch biscuit butter, or you can cut into squares. With remaining dough, reform and roll out to 1 inch and repeat until all the dough is used and made into biscuits.
  • Arrange biscuit dough on prepared baking sheet. Combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning with olive oil, then brush the olive oil on top of each biscuit, generously coating. Place in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until risen and a golden brown.
  • Serve immediately, or set on counter or serving dish until ready to serve.

  3. This recipe was a great alternative for biscuits and gravy. I made a white pepper gravy with some crumbled Italian sausage and peas. Topped the biscuits with powdered garlic. Rolled into a circle and cut into triangles. It was delicious.
