So a few weeks ago, I shared on my Instagram account that I was in need of dinner ideas. I had just got done being sick and was just lost at what to make my family for dinner. I shared this post to my personal Facebook page and my friends, family, and readers came to the rescue.

My friend Sonja makes this meal for her family, the only thing I didn’t add was the bacon. Well because we all love bacon and I was pretty sure my kids would have eaten around everything else just to get to the bacon. I will be trying that though eventually but we are starting here.

This meal is oh, so good and easy! I missed a step in the process of shredding the chicken but was so happy that I didn’t do that. My family loved it this way and the chicken was so tender that it melted in your mouth. It broke apart so easily in the bowl that it made it easy to get the perfect bite with vegetables, gravy, chicken, and dumplings.

I loved Sonja’s idea of using frozen biscuits at the topping. I will even be trying my homemade Copycat KFC Biscuits on top someday, but using the frozen biscuits made it so easy on a busy spring break day. My family and I went and played floor hockey, football, and basketball. All while this dreamy batch of Slow Cooker Chicken & Dumplings was cooking away.

I love that I have friends and readers willing to share their family to-go-to meals. It literally has been a lifesaver. XOXO San

SLOW COOKER CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS in a white bowl with a spoon

How to make Slow Cooker Chicken & Dumplings

The easiest way to make Chicken & Dumplings for me personally is through the slow cooker. I love the simplicity and it is just as comforting as the original.

Ideally, if you are making a classic recipe you will be making your dumplings from scratch. To save time, I use frozen biscuits.

First, you will need to line the bottom of your slow cooker with the chicken breast. Then top chicken breast with carrots, celery, and onions. Stir together the seasonings in a small bowl and sprinkle over the top of the chicken and veggies.

In a medium-sized bowl (approximately 4-6 cups) and mix together the chicken broth and cream of chicken soup. Pour broth mixture over the vegetables. Place lid on slow cooker and bake on high for 5-6 hours.

Remove lid and reduce heat to low on the slow cooker. Add the frozen biscuits gently on top of the gravy. Close the lid and cook on low for 1 more hour.

Remove lid and turn off slow cooker – let it sit for 10 minutes. Then serve. Make sure when you scoop it give each person 1 biscuit and about 1/3 to a 1/2 of a chicken breast. Use a ladle to grab some extra gravy if you need.

  1. Is that really 12 (twelve) cups of chicken broth? Your directions say to use a 4-6 cup bowl to mix the chicken broth and soup.

    1. Beth – I used thawed. I haven’t used frozen. And prefer cooking in the slow cooker with thawed with that said – I am sure you can try it, just checking the chicken in the end that it is done. You may need to extend the cooking time. Enjoy!

  2. By frozen biscuits do you mean the type that are in a can like pilsbury biscuits or an actual frozen dough?

  3. Can’t wait to make this! Slow cooker recipes are my go to now that my son has baseball and school thank you San
