Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt if desired
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup salted butter ice-cold, cut into pieces
  • 2-3 tablespoons cold hot chocolate or brewed coffee or water

Instructions

  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and sugar.
  • Add in chilled butter and cut into the flour using a pastry blender (my favorite kitchen tool), fork and a knife or just your fingers. Cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly add cold hot chocolate and mix together using a fork and stir until dough becomes soft.
  • Slightly knead the dough until it is smooth and them shape into a circular disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour (you can keep it in there up to 2 days).
  • Remove dough from refrigerator and set out for 5-10 minutes at room temperature. Roll out the dough on a cocoa powder or floured surface and transfer to 9-inch deep-dish pie pan. Making sure to trim the crust that is over hanging.
  • Cover the crust with plastic wrap and set back in the refrigerator for 20 minutes before adding filling and/or baking. Enjoy!
