Ingredients

  • 29 ounces tomato sauce
  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup Italian seasoning add additional seasoning to taste
  • 1 white onion diced
  • 3 garlic cloves chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • salt to taste
  • 1 pound cooked Italian sausage optional!

Instructions

  • Over medium high heat and in a large sauce pan add olive oil, heat olive oil for a few minutes, add onion and cook for 3 minutes, then add chopped garlic. Cook until onion is soft and translucent, approximately another 3-5 minutes.
  • Add red wine to deglaze pan, let it cook for 3-5 minutes until wine is cooked down. Add in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and seasoning. Stir, let it come to a slow boil. If you are adding meat, add it now.
  • Turn heat to low (lowest setting), cover, and let it simmer 1 hour. Occasionally stir to make sure it is not cooking to the bottom.
  • Occasionally, I will add an extra can of diced tomatoes just to make it a little chunkier, if I do this I will add additional Italian seasoning, 2 tablespoons. This add an extra 2 servings.
  • Serve with your favorite pasta dish and enjoy!
