Ingredients

  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 10 ounce bag mini-marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 8 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup Ghirardelli’s white chocolate melting chips

Instructions

Dulce de Leche

  • Remove the label from can. Using a bottle opener pierce three holes in the formation of a triangle on top of can. You need to do this to allow the pressure to release from the heat. You don’t want any exploding cans going off in the kitchen.
  • Place the can in a saucepan and fill the saucepan with water three-quarters of the way up the side of the can.
  • Bring water to a simmer and keep it there for 3-4 hours or until desired consistency. I like to cook mine closer to 4 hours for a thicker texture and darker color.
  • When ready to remove, use tongs to take the can out and cool slightly. Pour dulce de leche in a bowl and whisk until smooth. Use immediately or make the day before - just make sure if you do this to let it cool before storing.

Rice Krispies Treat

  • In a large mixing bowl, pour in the Rice Krispies cereal and sprinkle the cinnamon over the cereal. Toss and few times to get the cinnamon through the cereal.
  • Thoroughly grease a 9 by 13-inch pan with softened butter or cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large pot, melt the butter. Stir in the mini marshmallows until they're totally melted. Remove from the heat and stir in a little more than half of the dulce de leche.
  • Pour the dulce marshmallow mixture over the cereal, folding gently the whole time until all combined. Turn into the buttered pan.
  • In a small microwaveable bowl, melt white chocolate, following directions on the package. Once chocolate has melted, drizzle over bars. Let the chocolate harden and cut into squares and serve.

Notes

The 3 hours is to make the dulce leche. If you don't want to make your own, you can buy canned dulce de leche from your local grocery stores. For this recipe I made my own.
