Thanks to a tradition of great football here in Colorado, the end of the football season finds our family obsessively nail-biting, yelling at the tv, throwing parties, and of courseโฆ eating. Our family tradition for the Super Bowl always includes an annual foodie football championship, which consists of my husband and I facing off in an epic food battle. The winner gets the credit and determines the menu for the big game. This year, our kids did what they like best and judged the results (easily the most honest and toughest critics I know).
For the last month, weโve breathed orange and blue, cheering on Peyton Manning and the Broncos as they head to their second Super Bowl in four years. The Bronco fever has spread, taking over our Super Bowl Party theme and inspiring our 2015 foodie football challenge. Everything is orange and blue.
Thanks to Target, I was able to pick up coordinated party supplies, essential products and all the food in just one stop. And there was plenty available in my teamโs colors. The kids loved the gumballs and straws, while I loved the old school Crush soda bottles and, well, the food.
This yearโs challenge: wings.
I chose orange and came up with these Baked Bang Bang Chicken wings. A perfect mix of sweet chili and spice, these Baked Bang Bang Chicken Wings are full of flavor, but not too hot for the kids. Theyโre baked too, making them healthier than fried wings, but theyโre still bursting with flavor.
These beat my husbandโs Black and Blue wings 3-2, thanks to my five-year-old casting the deciding vote. With a blue cheese and cracked pepper balsamic vinaigrette, these wings were secretly my personal favorite, but Iโll still take the win.
After trying both, it looks like weโll have orange and blue at the big game to satisfy everyone. And if itโs any sign of whatโs to come, it looks like the second coming of the Orange Crush has the edge already. Cast your vote below in the comments โ which wing would you serve during the Super Bowl?
Either way, Baked Bang Bang Chicken Wings or Black and Blue Wings will each be devoured while you are cheering on your favorite team. Not only will these wings score with your fellow fans, you will be just as happy picking up all the Super Bowl Party essentials at Target, your one stop Super Bowl Party stop.
Go Broncos! XOXO San
How do you make Baked Bang Bang Chicken Wings?
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Prepare a baking pan/sheet by spraying with cooking oil, then set aside.
In a large mixing bowl whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, honey and Frankโs Hot Sauce until well combined. Stir in salt and granulated garlic.
Toss to coat the wings, pour onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes, then open the oven and rub wings around in the sauce using a set of tongs. Close the oven and bake for another 10 minutes. Again re-coat the wings with the sauce from the pan, and turn the oven to a low broil.
Once done broiling, remove the wings from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes before serving.
