Ingredients to make this salsa chicken recipe
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 24 ounces medium salsa
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 cups cheddar cheese

How to make skillet Salsa Chicken
Heat the oil and chicken in a large skillet over medium-high heat for a minute, then add the taco seasoning, garlic, and onion powder; stir to coat the chicken.
Cook chicken until it is no longer pink in the center.

Add the salsa to the pan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the temperature and simmer for 5-10 minutes, or until heated through and the chicken has a nice glaze.

Top with shredded cheese, return to heat, cover, and turn off the heat. Let it set for about 6-10 minutes until the cheese has completely melted. Remove from the stovetop and immediately serve.

What type of salsa should I use?
I recommend using a store-bought medium salsa for this recipe as it works well with the cheese and provides a creamy texture. Choose a saucy salsa over fresh, uncooked options like pico de gallo. If you’re looking to add some smokiness to the dish profile, try opting fora chipotle-flavored salsa.

How to serve this salsa chicken recipe
Tacos – Fill up warm tortillas with chicken, top it shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, sour cream, or guacamole. If you’re feeling adventurous add any of your other favorite toppings to the mix!
Burritos – There’s nothing quite like a homemade burrito. And with this easy recipe, you can make your own in no time! Simply start with a warm tortilla, and add the salsa chicken and all your favorite fillings. Wrap up and devour!
Tostadas – Enjoy the salsa chicken on top of a crispy tostada shell. Add toppings if you like, but it’s certainly not necessary!
Over rice – Serve rice, top with cilantro, and dinner is DONE!
Quesadillas – Fill the quesadillas with salsa chicken and cheese. Griddle on both sides for a toasty outer shell and serve with sour cream and guacamole.
Salad – Try the salsa chicken over romaine lettuce for a light meal. You can really add any sort of toppings or dressings you want.
