These Andes Mint Muddy Buddies are a tasty twist on classic muddy buddies.
This muddy buddy recipe (also known as puppy chow!) has a minty twist with Andes candies. Make a big batch to share with family and friends and you will get rave reviews! They are the perfect treat for any time, but especially during the holidays.

Who doesn’t love Muddy Buddies? Who doesn’t love Andes mints? I love them both and after seeing so many variations of Muddy Buddies over the years, I came up with my own adding my favorite mint.
So, consider this your new favorite Muddy Buddy treat with a sweet mint and chocolate layer. But be careful, if you are watching your waistline this is not a treat to make, as you will eat the entire bowl, or at least I did.
Chocolate Mint Muddy Buddies
Do you call it puppy chow or muddy buddies? Whatever you call it, this is a great recipe to make for any reason, but I tend to make muddy buddies during the holidays because they’re great for Christmas parties and gifting.
I remember the first time I made a batch of these mint muddy buddies – my kids walked in from school and saw a bowl of it and licked it clean. They loved it and so we made another batch – we kept some and gave the rest away to friends and family.
Whether you’re craving a sweet treat, an easy gift, or a special snack to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve, this mint puppy chow is a great option!

Ingredients
- Powdered sugar
- Chex cereal
- Andes Mints
- 60% Cacao Ghirardelli Bitter Sweet Chocolate
- Margarine cut into cubes
How do you make Andes Mint Muddy Buddies?
In a large glass mixing bowl, melt Andes mints, chocolate chips, and margarine in the microwave for 1 minute.

Stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted. You may need heat for another 30 seconds.

Add the cereal and mix until all the cereal pieces are coated with chocolate.

Pour in the powdered sugar and toss to coat completely.

Voila, you’re done! The only hard part about this recipe is not eating all of the muddy buddies straight from the bowl!

Recipe Tips
If you don’t have a microwave, you can melt the chocolate, candies, and margarine in a large saucepan over low heat on the stovetop.
Once the mint muddy buddies are cooled, store them in an airtight container. Or, package small batches in holiday bags or boxes for a fun gift!
Technically, homemade puppy chow will last for one to two weeks as long as it’s stored in an airtight container. In reality, it lasts for much less time at our house because it’s irresistible!

Everyone loves this easy muddy buddies recipe so I always make a few batches through the holiday season. I hope you enjoy this Christmas treat from me to you. XOXO San

Oh my goodness that sounds delicious. I love muddy buddies (ps I’m glad that’s what you call them because other people have odd names for these) and I’ve tried them with peanut butter and loved them. I don’t judge you for eating the whole bowl because I probably would too. Thanks for the recipe!
