Chocolate Nutella Poke Cake is a deliciously moist chocolate cake. This is an easy and simple recipe made with one of my favorite ingredients, Nutella.
So I know that I am not the only Nutella addict out there; simply based upon the fact that there are Nutella restaurants, food trucks, and sites dedicated to Nutella. My daughter recently came up with a drawing and recipe for a Nutella cake. This past week she was gone at her grandma’s, so I thought I would whip it up. When I told her she freaked out and said mom, “I want to do that with you!”
Since I had already started the batter, I quickly changed it up and made a poke cake instead and I am so happy I did. While the Nutella flavor is not strong in this cake, you taste more chocolate than anything else, I know that it adds to the flavor. This is probably the moistest cake I have ever made. All my friends and family, who tried this cake, said the exact same thing. Even the Nutella haters, (gasp) yes, we have some of those in my family (my husband) liked this cake. He couldn’t believe how moist it was.
If you want to add an additional layer of Nutella, I have an option in the recipe to add in some more, all you lovers like myself, may want this.
So from my accidental kitchen to your plate, here is a new McCollum family chocolate cake favorite.
Enjoy! XOXO San
How do you make Chocolate Nutella Poke Cake?
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease a 9×13 pan and set aside.
-
Prepare chocolate cake following the cake mix directions but add in 1 extra egg, additional 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup instant chocolate pudding (dry mix) and 1/2 cup Nutella. Mix using a stand mixer or hand mixer for 5 minutes on medium speed.
-
Pour batter into prepared pan, bake following box directions.
-
Immediately remove from oven and poke holes in the cake, I used the end of my spatula.
-
In a small mixing bowl combine sweetened condensed milk and remaining 1/2 cup Nutella, stir until well combined. Pour over cake and using a knife spread evenly over holes. This will take a few minutes to make sure it is spread evenly. Immediately place in the refrigerator and let it chill up to an hour.
-
If you are looking to add some additional Nutella flavor, once the cake has chilled, spread Nutella over the top of the cake, the cake may come up a bit and not look so pretty but that’s okay, you will be topping it with whipped cream.
-
Right before serving top with Cool Whip or whipped cream.
-
For homemade whipped cream, beat 2 cups heavy cream, 4 tablespoons sugar, and 2 teaspoons vanilla in a mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.
-
Serve immediately or store in fridge covered until ready to serve. Enjoy!
