You know that old saying, “Sharing is caring”? Well today, I am sharing this recipe for Easy Whoopie Pie because I care about you and your loved ones. These are such a fun treat for anyone who makes and/or receives them. Basically, they’re two cookies smashed together with frosting and rolled in sprinkles. These whoopie pies are festive and delicious.

When I was trying to think about a fun, sweet treat for my kids’ teachers this year, I was trying to come up with something I haven’t done before. Having 5 kids and with my oldest being 14, we have been in school for a while now; therefore, every year, it gets more difficult to come up with something I haven’t done before.

I grew up making cake cookies at the fire station where my dad worked (and still does). Jim, one of my dad co-workers who retired a while back, made cake cookies all the time. They were so easy with just a few simple ingredients, and I remember these cookies being super soft and chewy. Well, I haven’t made cake cookies since then.

My friends were recently talking about pudding cookies, and it made me remember cake cookies because as a kid, I always thought there was pudding in them even though there’s not. So I got the recipe from my mom and whipped up a batch. And they were oh so good. I used a Pillsbury™ Devil’s Food Cake Mix to make the base of the cookies then added some eggs and oil, then baked these puppies up. So easy. I had a Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag in Cream Cheese, which meant I could make these cookies into whoopie pies without much hassle or mess. The cream cheese frosting made the perfect Whoopie Pie filling. The Pillsbury Pastry Bag frosting comes in chocolate and vanilla as well.

It was so nice that I could whip up a fun, festive and insanely delicious treat without it taking the whole afternoon – and without a mess. I just needed a mixing bowl, measuring cup, spoon and baking tray. That was all the dishes I had to do. I made these about 1:30 in the afternoon and they were ready to go by 3! I packaged these treats in cute little plastic cupcake holders, slapped on a sticker and voila, our teachers are going to feel the love in the air thanks to Pillsbury cake mix and filled pastry bag frosting.

Show your friends and family how sweet you think they are. It doesn’t have to be Valentine’s day for you to make these. This recipe for Easy Whoopie Pies can be made all year long. With or without sprinkles, give whoopie pies as a sweet treat to your loved ones and it will always elicit a smile.

How do you make whoopie pies?

Preheat oven Bake at 350 degrees F.

Mix Pillsbury Devil’s Food Cake Mix, eggs and oil in a large bowl until well combined.

Scoop dough with cookie dough scoop (or by the tablespoon) and set on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 10-12 minutes.

Allow the cookies to completely cool.

Frost one cookie, on the flat side, using the Pillsbury Pastry Bag Cream Cheese Frosting.

Top the frosted cookie with another cookie, making a sandwich.

Roll the whoopie pie in sprinkles and set aside allowing the frosting to set.

  • 1 box Pillsbury Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1 Pillsbury Pastry Bag Cream Cheese Frosting
  • assorted Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Love how easy this is to make using the box mix! And adding sprinkles give it the perfect touch for a Valentine’s day treat!

  2. This tasted amazing however the tablespoon increment of the amount of batter for each cookie made it a lot of work and a lot of time if you double the recipe. Now that I have made it once I may make it again in bigger increments . All in all it’s a wonderful recipe that saved me a lot of time for a last minute bake sale 🙂
