I love the holidays, especially all the Christmas movies – basically, my TV is on repeat of all the classics. I don’t just sit there and watch them though, I listen to them while I bake my holiday heart out.

I was inspired to create some foodie gift ideas like this one while visiting Safeway’s Culinary Kitchens and Technical Center. I joined several of my food blogging friends to celebrate and kicked off the holiday season. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, we enjoyed the classic dishes while also learning some fantastic tips along the way. We walked into “Santa’s Workshop”, a room full of every mom and dad’s dreams… groceries. Seriously, this room was decorated like Christmas morning with really unique foods, and there was everything from artisan crackers to unique drinks (pear cider!?), pumpkin pasta, to pure maple syrups, and everything in between. We got to make up a few baskets filled with specialty products to send ourselves, and I can’t tell you how excited I was when they were delivered.
One of the biggest takeaways for me on the trip was that Safeway truly has everything you and I need for the holiday season. From pre-arranged flower bouquets, an amazing assortment of specialty food products that can be used to fill gift baskets to give away, and all cooking essentials, I was impressed with everything I could come away with shopping there, especially this time of year. I got to meet Debi Lily, the creative force behind debi lily designTM products carried in my area exclusively at Safeway brand stores. She shared holiday-inspired floral arrangements and gift ideas. From buying one of the debi lilly designed premade bouquets to creating your own, I learned how to create a simple floral masterpiece on a budget.
Making the holidays feel special while not over complicating it can be a difficult balance for me. After returning from Pleasanton, I learned I can make my table and food beautiful with a just a few simple touches. I love that this German Chocolate Cheesecake Ball encompasses everything I learned with Safeway – simple, stunning to the eye and tasty.
For this recipe, I used several of Safeway’s O Organics® line. I love their 100% Pure Maple Syrup; I used it to give a slight caramel taste to the cheese ball and to counterbalance some of the bitterness from the chocolate. Now as for the chocolate, I am completely obsessed with O Organics® line of chocolate. It is by far my favorite baking chocolate. I’m hungry just thinking of all of this.

How do you make a German Chocolate Cheesecake Ball?
Melt chocolate in microwave in 30 second intervals and stir in between until chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, butter and maple syrup until smooth and well combined.
Beat in melted chocolate, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
Add in chopped pecans and coconut and beat on low until mixed in.
Place the cream cheese mixture onto two pieces of plastic wrap and form the mixture into a ball.
Set in the refrigerator and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
In a small mixing bowl combine the topping ingredients: shredded coconut, pecans and mini-chocolate chips.
Roll refrigerated cheese ball into the topping mixture until the cheese ball is completely covered.
Serve immediately with a caramel drizzle or cover and set in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Right before serving drizzle the cheese ball in caramel.

- 8 ounces O Organics® Cream Cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, salted room tempature
- 2 tablespoons O Organics® Pure Maple Syrup
- 4 ounces O Organics®Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bar
- 1 teaspoon O Organics® Madagascar Vanilla
- 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup Signature Collection Shredded Sweetened Coconut
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup mini-chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut
