These easy cherry chip cookies are soft, chewy, and a breeze to make. Oh, and they are full of flavor – triple the flavor from a cherry cake mix, cherry chips, and maraschino cherries. Cherry lovers – you are going to love these.

I came up with this recipe after my son and his friends bought several packages of King Soopers cherry chip cookies. This went on for a few weeks until I suggested we try making our own.

And by “we,” I mean “me” because it was a Friday night when I found myself in the kitchen testing a recipe with cake mix, cherries, and white chocolate chips. Sarah, Liv, and Aiden were all doing their Friday night ritual, watching WandaVision.

After a taste test, we deemed them not good enough – they needed cherry chips, which I promptly ordered on Amazon (you can find them at Walmart, too).

Test two was a success! These cherry chip cookies taste like the originals but better because my version is soft and chewy. They are also effortless to make with just four ingredients.

Keep them in an airtight container, and they will keep for several days at room temperature. You can also freeze them for up to a month.

Cookie FAQs

I can’t find cherry cake mix, can I use something else?

Yes, you can substitute strawberry cake mix.

Can you use fresh cherries?

You can use fresh ones in place of the maraschino cherries, but the flavor will be different. For fresh ones, remove the pits and stems and chop them before add them to the dough.

Can you use dried cherries?

Yes, they should work fine but they will add a different texture.

It’s so fun to recreate something with success and we all agree that these cherry chip cookies taste way better than the ones in the bakery.

They’re so easy – one bowl and no mixer required. We just might be making a batch of these every week.

I loved the bits of cherries and cherry chips you get in each bite. Such a nice change from our usual chocolate desserts. Super easy to make too.

First of all, you can’t get a better cookie texture than you can get with a cake cookie. Second, they make cherry chips?! How did I not know this?!

I bake cookies every weekend! I love to have them on hand! These cherry cookies are the next to try!

    1. They are a very flat and chewy cookie, they will not puff up – 🙂 They are just as pictured. The only bumps are from the cherry chips.
