Honey Ginger Barbecue Chicken- with a touch of caramelized sweetness, this takes your traditional barbecue sauce and elevates it to a whole new level.

The smell of summer to me is a few things, my favorite being BBQ. I always get a little jealous when our neighbors start up the grill at 9 pm at night, yes they still live like they are in college, although they aren’t. Anyway, just the smell of their selection of meats makes me salivate even writing this. Maybe it’s because they are all chefs at Whole Foods, so I am sure it is top-notch. But either way, I have almost invited myself over on more than one occasion.

I also love watching my hubby stand by the grill… This is weird I know, but to me, it is very sexy. I remember the first time I thought this he had our oldest, Aiden, who was about 11 months at the time in a backpack carrier for kids. He put him in there and they started to grill. It was their “male bonding time”.

Maybe it’s the memories I have throughout my life, but I sure love the smell of summer and the delicious BBQ that follows. Here is my favorite, and my kids’ favorite grilled BBQ chicken!
Enjoy! XOXO San
How do you make Honey Ginger Barbecue Chicken?
-
Mix brown sugar, ketchup, red wine vinegar, water, honey, fresh ginger, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, paprika, kosher salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Place chicken in marinade. Cover and let the chicken marinate for at least 1 hour. I like to make it in the morning and let it sit all day in the fridge.
-
Heat gas or charcoal grill, remove chicken from marinade. Place chicken on grill over medium heat. Cover grill and cook 3-4 minutes, then using the leftover sauce baste the chicken, turn over the chicken and cook another 3-4 minutes. Repeat the process until the chicken is done, it takes my grill 20-25 minutes to cook the chicken thoroughly, and center of thickest part is cut (170°F).
-
Remove from grill and serve or cover with foil and serve later.
Want to make this into a slow cooker recipe? Add chicken and marinade in a crockpot and cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-8 hours.
