The holiday season is all about getting together with loved ones, enjoying traditions, and digging into tasty food. While a whole roasted turkey is the classic go-to, it’s not always the best choice, especially if you’re hosting a smaller group or want something quicker.

That’s where the Instant Pot comes inโ€”itโ€™s your new best friend for whipping up a juicy, tender turkey breast in no time.

The first time I tried this recipe was to see if it would work. We love our Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin recipe, so I thought I could switch out the meat, tweak a few things, and end up with a tasty dish. Turns out, I was right!

When planning your meals for the week or looking to impress your holiday guests, consider adding an Instant Turkey Breast. It’s quick, easy, and oh-so tasty. Plus, with all that extra oven space, you can whip up some delicious side dishes and desserts to complement your main dish.

Why Make Turkey Breast in the Instant Pot?

  • Quick and Efficient: Forget spending hours in the oven. The Instant Pot gets your turkey breast perfectly cooked in just about 25 minutes of pressure cooking, plus some natural release time.
  • Tender and Juicy: Pressure cooking locks in moisture, ensuring every bite of turkey is succulent.
  • Perfect for Small Gatherings: No need to hassle with a whole bird if you’re just cooking for a few folks.
  • Frees Up the Oven: Save your oven space for sides and desserts while your turkey cooks on the counter.
  • Not the Main Course: If you are like our home and serve both turkey and ham, then there is not need for a huge turkey, making just turkey breast ensures that you have the right amount of ham and turkey for all. Or just turkey for those picky eaters.

Equipment

  • 1 Instant Pot

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs boneless-skinless turkey breast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 teaspoons granulated garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon black ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Sauce

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or any brown mustard
  • 1-2 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Gravy

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3-4 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  • Combine all the seasonings: salt, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, sage, and pepper in a small bowl.
  • Pat the turkey breast dry with a paper towel, then rub the seasoning mixture on the pork loin, making sure to cover each side.
  • In a small mixing bowl or 2-cup measuring cup, add chicken broth, garlic, molasses, olive oil, and Dijon mustard. Whisk together until well combined.
  • Place the turkey breast in the instant pot, add the sauce, and secure the lid with the vent set to "Sealing". Pressure cook on HIGH for 25 minutes. Allow a Natural Release for 10-15 minutes, then manually release any remaining pressure.
  • To make the gravy for the turkey, remove the liquid from the Instant Pot; it should measure to about 2 cups. Add butter and set the Instant Pot to Saute. Gradually add the flour to thicken, creating a roux. Slowly whisk back in the sauce, followed by 1 cup of chicken broth (you should use about 3 cups of fluid between the sauce and the chicken broth). Cook until desired thickness.
  • Slice the turkey and serve with gravy.
