One of my all-time favorite shirts says, “PIGS—the inventors of bacon,” and every time I wear it, I get tons of compliments.

The shirt came from a trip to Iowa, where I toured the Brenneman family farm—a fully integrated swine and grain operation. The Brennemans were some of the kindest people I’ve ever met, and I got to experience it all alongside some of my blogging besties.

Bacon Hot Fudge Sauce is a sweet and salty chocolaty treat. Perfect drizzled over ice cream, pancakes, bananas, or drinking it straight from the jar.

Ingredients

  • 5 slices bacon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a medium skillet pan, cook bacon over medium high heat until completely cooked and crunchy.
  • I like mine crispy overall, but I like it really crispy for this recipe in particular.
  • In a small mixing bowl stir together brown sugar and cocoa powder, set aside.
  • Once you have cooked bacon remove it from skillet, reduce heat to medium and drain grease.
  • Chop up bacon. I like it into small crumbs. But you can leave in coarse crumbs or finely chop, depending on the texture you would like in your fudge.
  • Using the same pan, and over medium heat, add butter and milk, bring to a slow boil, and let it bubble for 3-5 minutes. Stirring occasionally. Add cocoa and brown sugar mixture, stirring constantly and cook for 2-3 minutes and sauce is smooth.
  • Immediately remove from heat and stir in vanilla and bacon crumbles. Set aside to cool, to room temp to let the sauce thicken.
  • Serve over ice cream, pancakes or anything. I highly recommend eating it straight from the jar, I have done both. Enjoy!
