Ingredients

To make these 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats, I used my copycat Noodles & Company rice krispie treats recipe that my daughters developed. We love this recipe, and it really can’t be beat.

What we love about the recipe is that it is so simple and you only need three ingredients!

  • Butter
  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • Regular Marshmallows

How to make the red, white, and blue layers for 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats

  • To make a layered cereal and marshmallow treat, you will need 3 cups of rice krispies in 3 separate bowls, one bowl with each layer. So you will need exactly 9 cups of cereal.
  • To make the marshmallow cream for each layer, have 3 medium microwave-safe bowls and put 6 ounces of marshmallows and two tablespoons of butter in each bowl. Heat one bowl at a time in the microwave for one minute until the marshmallows puff up, being careful not to let them overflow.
  • Blue Layer / Bottom Layer
Start with the blue food dye. Melt the marshmallows and butter in the microwave for 1 minute, stir together while adding the blue food dye/coloring, and stir until well combined. Add 3 cups of rice krispies and stir with a spatula until all the cereal is well coated. Press into an 8×8 or 9×9 baking pan.
  • White Layer / Middle Layer
To make the white layer, melt the marshmallows and butter in the microwave for 1 minute, stir together, add 3 cups of rice krispies, and stir with a rubber spatula until all the cereal is well coated. Add on top of the blue layer in the baking pan and press down to smooth it out.
  • Red Layer / Top Layer
Now make the red layer. Melt the marshmallows and butter in the microwave for 1 minute, stir together add the red food dye/coloring, and stir until well combined. Add 3 cups of rice krispies and stir with a spatula until all the cereal is well coated. Add on top of the white layer in the baking pan and press down to smooth it out.
  • Decorate with drizzled white melting chocolate and sprinkles, or leave just as is; either way, this classic treat is just as delicious as the original, just a little more festive.
