Fall head over heels in love with this Apple Cherry Crisp recipe, we sure have. Simple, easy, and delicious, this is a holiday must-have.
This Apple Cherry Crisp is a continuation of our recent family kick of cobbler and crisp recipes. This kick-started when we made Best Ever Peach Cobbler and Cherry Cobbler to follow.
I am more of an apple fan when it comes to fruity desserts. Whereas my husband is not.
This Apple Cherry Crisp is the perfect representation of us because it has something we both love and combines to make something out of this world.
Coming out the oven, this recipe just smells like heaven. My kids walked in the door from school and took one whiff and headed straight for the silverware drawer. There was no stopping them, they were going to dig in. I did stop them, letting them know that we would be waiting for daddy to get home. They immediately exclaimed that if we waited, they wouldn’t get in because daddy would eat it all. Since they were right I let them have just a bite.
My husband walked in the door and following exactly what the kids did, he went to grab a spoon and headed to dig in. I stopped him and said, just wait. Then I went to the fridge and grabbed some homemade almond whipped cream {drooling}, then proceeded to top some of the cobbler with it. I then told him, “okay babe, now you can dig in.”
Kids followed and soon before you know it it was gone, more like demolished.
Both my son, Aiden, and my husband told me this was the best crisp they had ever had. EVER! In fact, since making this recipe it has been requested numerous times and it will be gracing our table this Thanksgiving and Christmas.
We g-p back and forth calling this a cobbler or a crisp and many wonder what is the real difference. Well here it is. Both have baked fruit. A crisp is topped with a mixture of some combination of flour, nuts, cereal (especially oatmeal), butter, and sugar. Sometimes is crisp is also called a crumble. A cobbler also has baked fruit topped with a batter or biscuit crust. Our cobbler recipes have cake mix in it (as well as this crisp) hence why we refer to it as a cobbler sometimes. To me, cobbler seems a little sweeter in their topping.
So whether you call it a crumble, cobbler or crisp, it really doesn’t matter. Either way, you need to get this combination of apple and cherry into your belly.
Enjoy this perfect fall treat friends, your family and friends will love this Apple Cherry Crisp recipe just as much as mine do.
Enjoy! XOXO San

Have you ever used a chocolate cake mix for a topping? What do you think?
We haven’t tried that. But I like that idea with cherries!
Question, can I leave out the cake mix? I don’t like mixes and also live in a place where I have to do everything from scratch – so is there a substitute option or can I just take it out entirely?
Thanks, this looks delicious!
Yes, you can leave it out.
I would mix flour, brown sugar, white granulated sugar, a pinch of salt, cinnamon and vanilla extract so make my own topping and then cut in the butter, you will be just fine with that. Play around with the amount of sugar to get the amount of sweetness you desire.
Can I use cherries in the can?
Yes, you could ๐
