These Best Ever Frosted M&M Cookies are soft, chewy, and irresistibly delicious. Combining two of my favorite treats in one perfect cookie.

The only thing I love more than M&M cookies are M&M cookies with a pillow of frosting on top. These cookies are just that, soft and chewy cookies studded with M&M’s and a generous swoosh of vanilla frosting on top.

I love M&M’s – every kind of M&M! Serve them to me plain, in popcorn, in a cupcake, or a cookie. I don’t care. I just flat out can’t get enough of these tiny little sweet things!

Another love of mine is soft and chewy frosted cookies so for this recipe I’ve combined my two favorites to make the best ever M&M cookies.

Like their mom, my kids love M&M’s – especially in popcorn! But they do love these cookies, too. I know how much they love them when they ask if they can take some to their teachers because they only like to share the best treats!

This is a simple recipe – the cookie dough is quick to make and the frosting is even easier.

You can make and bake the cookies a day in advance and frost them the next day to make it easier for events or parties.

The cookies keep well at room temperature and are freezer-friendly, too!

You can use any kind of M&M for this recipe – pick your favorite! Or choose the seasonal ones to make holiday-themed M&M cookies.

I love these so much I’ve done a version with mint, so be sure to try my Frosted Mint M&M Cookies, too!

How to make frosted M&M Cookies

Cream the butter, sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.

Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl and stir three times to combine. Slowly add the mixture to the other bowl and beat into the butter and sugar. Once the dough comes together stir in M&M’s.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and scoop the cookie dough into tablespoon-sized balls on the baking sheet. Top each ball with two to three M&Ms.

Bake the cookies at 350°F for 11 to 12 minutes or until a light golden brown. Cool them completely before frosting.

Clear vanilla is great for this frosting because you’ll get a pure white color. You can also tint your frosting with coloring.

Cream the confectioner’s sugar and butter in a bowl until smooth. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes. Color with food coloring if desired or leave it white.

Frost the cooled cookies with about a tablespoon of frosting each. Serve and devour!

Sandra’s Tips

  • Do you have to chill the cookie dough? No, this is a no-chill cookie recipe. Just another reason to love it!
  • What else can you add to these cookies? I’m all about the M&Ms for this recipe, you can use other mix-ins like nuts, other chocolate candy, chocolate chips, or other baking chips. Sometimes I do a mix of M&Ms and chocolate chips. Just keep the total amount of mix-ins to three cups total.
  • Can you make the dough ahead? Yes, you can make the dough up to a day in advance. If you do, I recommend rolling the balls and then chill them covered on a baking sheet. Let them sit out at room temperature for a few minutes before baking them.
  • Can you freeze them? Yes, the cookies freeze great but I would wait to frost them until after they are thawed. Keep them in a freezer container and they will keep for up to two months.

You know I love all of my cookie recipes equally, but these sweet M&M cookies hold a special place in my heart!

They are wonderful – soft, chewy, and chocolate candy in every bite. The frosting takes it over the top! I know you will love them, too.

        1. It does for a buttercream, but you won’t want to stack directly ontop of eachother. If you do stack, put a piece of parchment paper between each cookie.

  1. I hate when stores don’t use real M&Ms! I can’t wait to try this recipe. Thanks for linking to the In and Out of the Kitchen Link Party. Hope to see you next week.
